January 14, 2012, 06:35:03 PM
This version is mainly a bug fix release. There were several crashes reported on the forum and the bug tracker that should be fixed now. In more detail:

  • Fixed crash when opening the filter dialog
  • Fixed crash when performing Undo
  • Fixed crash when moving items
Thank you for all your feedback!

Announcenments / Version 0.6.2
January 07, 2012, 05:35:58 PM
It's been a while since I updated CentrED. There was a private interim release which already addressed some tickets from the tracker and now it's the time to make it public.

The most important change is probably the support for the new Tiledata from the High Seas expansion. Here is the full list of changes:

  • Added random pool for hues
  • Added more infos to the account list (for admins)
  • Added sorting to account list
  • Fixed possible crash with light sources enabled
  • Added support for new tiledata from High Seas expansion
Have fun!

Bugs / Bug Tracker
February 02, 2011, 10:50:19 PM
You can see a list of known/recognized bugs on the official Bug Tracker:
http://redmine.aksdb.de/projects/centred/issues

You can also use this to report bugs. If you don't know how to handle it, just use this forum to describe the bug.

In any case, give as much detail as you can provide.

Announcenments / New Forum Software
October 20, 2010, 12:00:49 AM
Since the old forum software (phpBB) kept causing trouble, I switched to SMF now. I migrated all accounts and posts as well as the forum structure. Short tests seem to indicate that all went well, but if anyone experiences any trouble, please contact me.

Announcenments / Version 0.6.1
December 24, 2009, 04:40:15 PM
Since there were some annoying bugs in the 0.6 release, I quickly pushed out 0.6.1 to fix these. Also on board is a new feature that should help map building:

  • Added highlighting for (un)walkable tiles (surfaces that can be walked on are green, others red)
  • Added optional white map-background
  • Fixed static drawing order (again)
  • Fixed flickering that occured in some cases
  • Fixed server not always saving changes

Thanks for the reports and again
Happy Holidays!

Announcenments / Version 0.6
December 22, 2009, 09:13:04 PM
Another bunch of ideas and fixes found its way into CentrED. Ladies and Gentlemen, the new version proudly presents:

  • Added rendering of lightsources
  • Added buttons to the largescale and region dialogs to pick locations from the game window
  • Added support for larger tiledata/animdata/art files
  • Added ability to define custom "nodraw" tiles (see Wiki)
  • Changed static tile render order
  • Changed translucent tiles to be more opaque
  • Changed the format of locations and random presets to be less fragile
  • Fixed a crash related to the Virtual Layer
  • Fixed several smaller bugs
  • Fixed serverside memory leak

Due to the new support for more static tiles, I also released a new server version.
Unfortunately I also had to change the file format for Locations and Random Presets (again). The way they are stored now should not be necessary to change in the future, so please bear with me for this (final) change.

Again many thanks for the many reports and suggestions!

Happy Holidays!

Announcenments / Version 0.5 Release
December 11, 2009, 06:10:46 PM
After weeks of work a new version is ready to be used by the public. This is a completely client-centric release with complete compatibility to the current server versions.

Among the new features you can find much of what the community had requested for a long time:
  • Completely reworked rendering (should be much faster now)
  • Added one-step UnDo
  • Added support for animated tiles
  • Added optional height information to flat mode
  • Added keyboard movement (NumPad, Arrow Keys, WSAD)
  • Added live-preview for drawing operations
  • Changed config path to be within the home directory

    • Local AppData on Windows

    • $HOME/.config on Linux
  • Added options to toggle animations and security questions
  • Added (re)storing of options on start/exit
  • Added highlight of target regions to the LargeScaleCommand window
  • Optimized memory handling to adjust for larger requirements
  • Several internal fixes and cleanups

Many thanks to my staff at the DragonCastle Freeshard and to the staff of the Siebenwind Freeshard who both helped me much with testing and feedback.

Announcenments / New Project Page
August 07, 2009, 01:30:35 PM
To simplify the management of CentrED (issues, documentation, files, etc.) I setup a project repository. The normal CentrED website will also redirect there from now on.

You can find the new project page at http://redmine.aksdb.de/projects/show/centred
Feel free to contact me if you want to contribute and want write access to the wiki.

Announcenments / Version 0.4.1 Release
September 07, 2008, 03:45:59 PM
Since a few bugs have been found in version 0.4.0 there is now a (mainly) bug fix release. But also a small new feature found it's way into this new version (thanks to Turley ;-)). The changes are all client-side only.

Changes (Client)
  • Added random altitude to the elevate tool
  • Fixed Boundaries not being updated when using the spin edits
  • Fixed RegionControl to not react on mouseclicks when no region is selected
  • Fixed VirtualLayer crashing CentrED when scrolling to the edges of a map
  • Fixed elevation with the mouse wheel being far too high

Keep on submitting wishes and bug reports and if possible even patches :-)
Thanks for all your interest in this project!

Announcenments / Version 0.4.0 Release
August 27, 2008, 01:33:38 PM
After a loooong time, a new version is finally available.
Thanks to the effort of Turley, a member on this forum, an important new feature found its way into CentrED. From now on it is possible to define groups of regions on the map and assign accounts with them. If an account has one or more regions assigned, he will only be able to edit anything within these regions. Therefore it is now possible, to build specialized groups of users who should  only work on specific projects.
A slightly more detailed list of changes follows:

Client:
  • Added regional restrictions to accounts
  • Visualize these restrictions for users
  • Added better GTK2 compatibility to the Linux version
  • Map tiles can now be drawn with a random altitude modificator

Server:
  • Added more detailed startup messages
  • Changed config file to use XML
  • Bumped config file version to 3
(A converter for Linux and Windows [with source] can be found here. Just put it in the same directory as cedserver.ini and execute it.)

On both sides a few memory leaks were removed.

Thanks again to Turley for his effort to familiarize himself with the source and work on it :)

Development / What's currently being worked on
August 12, 2008, 10:39:15 AM
Since some members of the community have found interest in the source code, I'll use this thread to keep track on what is currently being worked on.

Currently work in progress

Done
  • Regional restrictions for accounts (limit write access to certain areas)

If you are planning something or even started to implement something, please send me a PM and inform me about it, so I can keep this thread up to date. Thanks.

Announcenments / Source Code Release
April 29, 2008, 12:02:42 PM
I prepared it already some time ago and think that the time has come, to finally reveal it.
CentrED is from now on published under the CDDL Open Source license.
All details on how to obtain the source and how to contribute can be found in the according thread.

Development / Source Code
April 29, 2008, 11:09:48 AM
About
CentrED is written in FreePascal (FPC) and Lazarus. Both are OpenSource too and can be obtained from http://www.freepascal.org and http://www.lazarus.freepascal.org (Lazarus usually already includes FPC).

CentrED is licensed under Sun's CDDL. This choice was made to allow reuse within other - even closed source - projects but with the exception, that the used parts have to remain open source. It's comparable to the LGPL.

Where to get
The Source Code can be obtained from the Mercurial repository at http://hg.aksdb.de/CentrED.
Mercurial is a distributed revision control system and is easy to use either through command line (see the Quick Start Guide) or through several GUIs, one of them being TortoiseHG.

How to contribute
The repository itself is read-only but I'm gladly accepting patches. I will review them and include them into the main repository. A positive review requires that the source code matches mostly my coding style since I don't want a messed up source code. My style should be more or less self-explanatory from looking at existing files.
The only thing I "demand" is, that you allow me (implicitly by sending me the patches) to change the license at some point to another open source license if I see the need to do so (for example [L]GPL). Your copyright will of course be kept intact - I will not remove any remarks about the contributed code.

General / New Config format
March 06, 2008, 03:16:10 PM
I'm currently rewriting the way cedserver stores its settings (paths and accounts) to prepare some upcoming changes. This format will be extremly different from the current format (XML to be more precise).
To see your opinion I offer you to vote what you would like: a posibility to convert the old config into the new format (automatic or manual) or not. I personally don't see a need for a converter, since I don't have that much accounts ... so it is rather easy to recreate them - but I'll let you decide.

General / Documentation
January 05, 2008, 06:06:56 PM
A basic manual is available at http://www.aksdb.de/CentrED/Manual.pdf
It is far from complete but should give a small insight to the program and its setup.

Also, Peter put together a very good Czech manual. You can find it here:

Announcenments / Version 0.3.6 Release
December 10, 2007, 08:38:27 PM
I still don't have much time to work on CentrED more extensively, so here is just a small new bit (and only affects the client):

  • Added support for translucent tiles
  • Added Jump-To-TileID to the tile list (just enter the number and press enter)
  • Improved Linux support
    • Switched to GTK instead of GTK2 to improve stability
    • Fixed the filter dialog
    • Added correct parent window behavior
    • Added (internal) drag & drop between the tile lists
    • Disabled the tooltip due to inconsistent behavior (will be reenabled later)
#17
Announcenments / Version 0.3.5 Release
September 16, 2007, 07:22:49 PM
I'm a bit short of time at the moment, but I added some small new things to the client.
There are still some bugs (as reported by the very helpful users :)), but that will still have to wait a bit. Sorry.

Here are the changes (client side only):
  • Added ability to hide No-Draw tiles
  • Added flat-view (where everything is drawn with Z = 0)
  • Added tooltip to the tile list (showing the flags and the name of the tiles)
  • Fixed crash when dragging the mouse over an arrow
  • Fixed some crashes in the linux version
#18
Announcenments / Version 0.3.4 Release
August 25, 2007, 02:34:53 PM
Again, some bugs and inconveniences popped up, so here is another bug fix release.
It only includes server side changes, so no client update is necessary:
  • Softened timeout checks to prevent unnecessary kicks
  • Added validation for the map size on startup
#19
Announcenments / Version 0.3.3 Release
August 22, 2007, 12:44:02 PM
As there were (and maybe are) still some serious bugs in the server, here is another maintenance release:

Client changes:
  • Optimized responsiveness

Server changes:
  • Changed to a more stable zlib implementation
  • Fixed bug in disconnect handling, which could lead to a server crash

As the zlib is used within the protocol, the client update is necessary.
#20
Announcenments / Version 0.3.2 Release
August 17, 2007, 12:45:52 AM
Another small release with just a few (but helpful) additions.
This time it only includes client changes:
  • Added statics filter (by Tile ID and Hue)
  • Fixed occasional error when selecting tiles
