Support / Super slow client response tim...
Last post by Tykiim - May 13, 2011, 05:24:08 AM
I have installed the latest CentrED client (0.6.1) on a Windows 7 system and I am getting really slow client response times. It takes about a second to move the map one point in any direction, and other operations like changing my selected tool are equally slow. I have tried disabling the Win7 themes and running in XP compatability mode, but these changes haven't had any effect. I've also tried running against the local IP instead of through the public domain (the server is on a separate computer in my local network), and that only improved slightly (not enough to make me believe it's a network problem, given that client-side operations are slow).

I don't have any other user processes running, and CPU at a standstill is 0-2%, RAM at 20-30%. CPU usage does go into the 50-60% as I execute CentrED operations...

I have another Windows 7 system (with more RAM and a better gfx card, though) that has no trouble at all running the same CentrED client version against the same server. Is there anything I can do to improve the performance for this system?

Here are my system specs:
Intel C2Duo 6300, 1.86GHz
3.5GB DDR2 800MHz RAM
ATI Radeon X1950 video w/2GB onboard memory
Windows 7 32-bit

Verdata.mul is pretty dead; the UO client doesn't support that file for several years now. So you have to modify art.mul (and/or artidx.mul) and tiledata.mul

Hmm... is it then possible to let CentrED read out a verdata.mul file to use "invisible" lightsources?

That's not really possible. The statics file doesn't contain information about light sources, only the tiledata does. So you would need to create "dummy" items (that have an invisible art) and a corresponding lightsource defined in the tiledata. All in all I would recommend to just place lightsources on your server and keep them non-static. That allows for far more customizability with a lot less trouble.

Hi there,

how can i add a lightsource without an art-tile which is addicted to it?
I'd like to decorate a house or something with atmospheric lightsources, after completing ist (like a 2nd building step)

You can download a little batch file from here: http://aksdb.de/board/index.php?topic=221.msg787#msg787
Put that where your cedserver.exe is and run it. That bat file will launch cedserver, but keep the console window open when it exists, so you can see the error message. If that message doesn't help you, just post it here (rightclick the title of that console window and select Edit --> Select, then select everything and hit Enter) and I will see if I can help you :)

Support / Cannot operate server
Last post by tarn - April 21, 2011, 02:33:37 PM
Hello; i've flicked through the forums and read other posts; followed guides; etc. to no luck. so i am going to make my own post.

I have my files seperated; my client runs off of c:/programfiles/eagames/uo (shorthanded directory)
My server: from a seperate pack of files nescessary for runuo server execution & operation.
My CenterED server, is pointed to yet ANOTHER set of files, located at c:\documents and sttings\user\desktop\centserv\gamefiles
My client is patched to 6.0.9.2

I input the correct directories; it generates the xml sheet (or did at one point, it hasnt since.) once i hit enter to finalize server directory/info setup, (and get to the part where the server starts), it kills. closes out. at first i thought that it might run in the background or something, but upon trying to connect, it says connection refused.
help?

thank you- tarn

Well, welcome back in the UO community I guess ;-)

I still develop CentrED from time to time, as you can see in the activity overview. I just don't/can't spend too much time on it. If you have specific requests/ideas, I'm open for suggestions. You may also enter them directly in the bug/feature tracker.

Heya Hitman!

Just to drop a line in here after so long...

I am currently actively using CentrED. Recently I have decided to go back to UO, after taking a much needed long break from it. So, I was dusting off my server when I extracted my CentrED files. I can log in, edit, and find it is working great! I notice that there isn't a new version other than 6.1 that I was using last summer before I took my break. Do you have plans to continue development? Only reason I ask, is this is a fantastic product and this is one of those rare gems for UO customization.

Anyhow, I wish that you find the time somewhere in your life to be able to continue with this project. As I plan to be using your map editor to edit all the different UO maps. I have already figured out a way.  ;D

I also send you my best wishes and wish you a great day!

You have to use statics for the ground of the cave. There can always only be one map tile per x, y coordinate.
